What is the duty for sending a laptop to my family in India from USA ?
I want to use fedex or DHL etc. for this purpose. Are they insured as well?

You may purchase insurance at an extra cost. Fedex includes up to $100 worth of insurance free. After that it's like $1 per $100. Check with Fedex for exact costs.
