As far as I know Bangladeshi citizen can bring laptop without having to pay any Government Taxes or Duties (Customs duty). I got my one which was hand-carried by one of our relatives and it is not at all an issue, provided that enough care has been taken during transit. Better to have the box and packing thrown away and put the Laptop inside its soft-covers (additional item) and carry in side-bag for easy handling. Always remove the batteries and send it in unaccompanied luggage as a safety precaution only, but not a necessary or mandated by anyone. Sometimes, our very infamous Customs and Immigration people working at ZIA International Airport would try to hoodwink innocent passengers and ask this or that questions to extract under-the-table money. It is advisable if your auntie can have the Baggage Rule available handy to show them, if they ask for any taxes/duties. Wish you luck with new laptop. Btw, what is the brand name and how much they are costing now? Toshiba Satellite costing me $700 about 3 years ago bought from NY. -- Edit-1: For Spoonee (below), even if the laptop is packed in original packing and unopened, you are allowed to bring brand new Laptop without having to pay any taxes and duties. Even you can put it inside unaccompanied baggage too! Edit-2 I checked with my cousin who came on 14th April from US. He confirmed that there is no problem in the US when one leaves with laptop. No Tax or duty to be paid in US while going out of the country. He also confirmed that per person one laptop is allowed to be hand-carried, but have the battery separated and kept inside the luggage (unaccompanied) since all types of batteries are not allowed inside the cabin, for security reason. Hope this clarifies the matter.

I'm not sure this will work, but have her pack it as if it were her own (not in the box). As if she already owned it prior to getting to the US. As I'm sure many have, I've traveled with my laptop to many places with no questions. Provide the illusion.
