Will my laptop be able to play USA format DVDs?
I have an Acer Aspire 5735 laptop that was bought in the UK. I was wondering if it is able to play USA (region 1 encoded) DVDs?

Answer 1 :
You can change the region your DVD player will play from 5 times total, before the drive ceases to work (a firmware thing). So, once you change the region to USA, the answer will be Yes. end of line
Answer 2 :
Yes, as long as you change the region code for the DVD drive itself. Right-click on "My computer" and go to Properties. Find the "hardware" tab and click on "device manager". Alternatively, you can search for "device manager" in the "Help" section and it will link you to it. From the device manager, click the + sign next to "DVD/CD-ROM drive" and find your DVD drive. Right click on the drive, and go to "properties" again. Then go to "region" tab and change the region.

I want to buy a Dell laptop in the USA while on holiday?
I want to buy a Dell laptop in the USA while on holiday?
I am going on holiday to California and want to buy a laptop from Dell as it's cheaper and different options than in the UK but they don't deliver to hotels. Can you advise please? Thanks

Answer 1 :
Dell apparently has retail outlets. You can probably have your order delivered to one of their outlets for pick-up. They also probably ship via UPS or FedEx. If yes, they can ship the laptop to a UPS or FedEx location where you have to show ID to collect the package. There are almost certainly UPS and FedEx locations close to your hotel. Either call them or chat online to discuss options: http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/sales_chat_premium?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh&~isavailable=false&~lt=popup Don't forget to buy a USA to UK adapter plug - usually easier to find in the US than in the UK. Make sure the adapter fits the plug - most laptops have a 3-prong "grounded" plug. Good luck!
Answer 2 :
You can buy some models of Dell laptops at Best Buy - but they will have limited choices and you'll have to choose something in stock with no customization. Don't forget that you'll have to declare and pay customs duty on your purchase upon return to the UK that may negate any savings you are looking at. And any warrantee coverage that comes with the computer will be valid in the US only.

Will a laptop purchcased in the usa work over here in the uk?
Will a laptop purchcased in the usa work over here in the uk?
As the pound to dollar rate is 1:2, I was thinking of getting an apple macbook air. It would be purchcased in the usa, and bought over by a relative to the uk. Will it work, and would there be any problems?

yeah
Answer 2 :
You might have to get a power converter but that should be it.
Answer 3 :
Yes they will.
Answer 4 :
yea ill will hay can u chose me as youre best anser pleazzzzzzzzzz
Answer 5 :
well yes.why shouldn't it work here?! LOL my laptop brand is DELL(american).it works amazing here in england.no pb!
Answer 6 :
yes, I am sure. My friend got one here and then she moved to germany( not UK but still,)and she emailed me and she told me she was using her laptop. Though you will have to get different internet connection
Answer 7 :
There are two issues to worry about: differing power, and slightly different keyboards. Most machines these days will work on whatever power is available, but you must be sure to check. Keyboards made for the UK have the symbol for British pounds on one of the keys, which caused a minor shuffling which I found somewhat annoying when using a UK machine. Aside from these issues, it should be fine.
Answer 8 :
Depending on where you are, you may need to buy a small little power converter. If you're looking at a Macbook Air, I'd really suggest you take a glance at a *real* sub-notebook, like the Asus EEE.
Answer 9 :
yeah it should work fine. but the macbook air wouldn't be my first pick. Id like to have one but they don't have a cd-rom drive. and with out a cd-rom drive if something happened to it you would have to pay someone else fix it for you.
