DHL would be his best bet, there are major DHL hubs at all of London's airports and smaller offices all over London. They are fast, secure and safe. DHL will courier it to your address. However, before they deliver it you will be liable for import duty and customs duty. Goods sent as a gift that are over £36 in value are liable to import VAT. Customs duty also becomes payable if the value of the goods is over £120 but is waived if the amount of duty calculated is less than £7. http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageVAT_ShowContent&id=HMCE_CL_000014&propertyType=document#P32_2450
Answer 3 :
Courier, is best, but make sure it is sent as a present, therefore no import costs will apply, otherwise youll get charged for it when it arrives.

Answer 1 :
most (if not all) adapters are made for an input voltage of 100 - 240V AC, 50/60Hz. there is no need for another adapter. you have to check the sticker on the adapter and if it says the above you're fine. the only thing to buy is a plug adapter for the indian outlets. you can also cut off the existing plug and replacing it with an indian one.
Answer 2 :
Most power supplies for laptops these days are universal ie 100-240v range. But you should check the power supply to see what is actually stamped on it. If it is 110v only then it is likely to blow up if you connect it to 240v
Answer 3 :
Yes that is true for many adapters but I am more worried that they are using a completly different power plug outlet in India then the USA. BTW india uses 250V. In other words, the plug will not be able to physically get able to fit in their outlet. We use the type A and B outlets: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Domestic_AC_Type_B_USA.jpg and India uses type D plugs and outlets: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:D_plug.jpg
