Best/safest current converter to use a USA laptop in the UK?
Hey, I don't want to fry another electric item in the UK. I have trouble understanding the difference between an adapter and a converter. I will be using an Acer AS 5551 in England, but it was purchased in the US. If you have experience in this area can you suggest a good reliable, converter? I am looking on amazon and found one, but i don't want to cheap out as the laptop replacement will cost more than spending enough on a good converter. Thanks! (on amazon: Power Bright VC100W Voltage Transformer 100 Watt Step Up/Down 110 Volt - 220 Volt Thanks for the response, but doesnt an adapter just change the plug itself, not covnert the wattage? Isnt that the bigger issue when charging items in other countries.

just buy a UK adapter. it will turn out cheaper and easier solution in the end. look at it this way - will the converter make your laptop more portable ? if you don't buy the cheapest power adapter for 5er, you'll be safe. they're usually made in the same factory, it's only the brand sticker in the end that makes the (price) difference this one is genuine btw: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Genuine-Laptop-Adapter-Charger-Aspire/dp/B003EGDCOI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=computers&qid=1291921010&sr=8-3

Anything from LewisNClark is very reliable. Their travel adapter works perfectly there with US equipment. Only the adapter is necessary, no converter is needed for UK. US laptop power supplies can take 100-240V.
