Going to Japan from USA, do I need an adapter for my laptop charging cord?
I have a three prong plug for my laptop charger, what sort of adapter do I need? I'm going to be there long term so I don't want to damage my machine. Any links to a product would be appreciated.

Look on your AC adapter it probably says 100-240V 50/60 Hz (Worldwide Compatible) Japan is 100V 50HZ in the east and 60HZ in the west The AC wall socket is like ours without the ground - just get a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter at the grocery or hardware store http://www.summitsource.com/grounding-adapter-3prong-to-2prong-ac-wall-outlet-polarized-electrical-power-grounded-grounding-adapter-3-prong-outlet-plug-to-2-prong-ac-ground-wire-plug-adapter-part-905100-p-8800.html

ya, you would be able to play irish blue ray dvds, but you wouldn't be able to plug it in in ireland or you'll fry the laptop, and when i was refering to the laptop frying, what i was referring to is how you'd need the adapter or it'll fry
Answer 2 :
The Americas are in Blu Ray region 1, while Ireland is in region 2, so you will probably not be able to play region 2 discs on a region 1 device. Most DVD drives allow you to change the region code a set # of times, however I don't believe that BD players have this feature. Your best bet is to either buy a BD player in Ireland, or import your BD discs from the US (or somewhere else in region 1). You could also look into software solutions such as AnyDVD HD which will remove region codes, but that would involve additional cost. Not sure what robman is referring to, as his answer is totally bogus on both counts. US laptops will work just fine in Ireland, all you need is an adapter to make the power cord physically fit in the outlet. The power itself is fine.
